Protea is the botanical name of the sugarbush. The plant is named for the Greek God Protea who was known for his ability to take many forms – Protea flowers come in manu shapes and colors, but all are spectacula.
The Protea are also famous for being amongst the oldest of the flowering plants, their ancestors bloomed over 300 million years ago.
Many modern protea come from South Africa where the flower is a national symbol.
Protea look great, placed alone in a vase they are typically large as well as long lasting, but can be difficult to find in the local florists.

There are many colors available, some velvety some spiky, Because of their size, protea look good in large flower arrangements, especially where you need something resistant to heat.
